Early Years Foundation Stage training courses – NOW AVAILABLE

Morton Michel is delighted to announce that, together with Training Packages Ltd, a series of training courses, on CD Rom, are now available via the Morton Michel Shop.

Current Morton Michel policyholders are entitled to a substantial discount.

These courses will ensure that you will be well prepared for the implementation of the EYFS and its associated Ofsted inspections.

At the end of these courses you will receive a certificate for you to show the Ofted inspector.

The Early Years Foundation Stage becomes mandatory from September 2008. It will build on the current curriculum guidance for the Foundation Stage, the Birth to Three Matters Framework and the National Standards for Under Eights Day Care and Childminding, all of which will be amalgamated into one document becoming the Early Years Foundation Stage.

It will support practitioners to provide and plan for individual care & learning opportunities for each child at each stage of his or her development.

The help you in this preparation process we have available a series of Nine Practitioner Courses to support individual professional development that cover all the themes and commitments.

This all-in-one package will contain the following essential courses:

An introduction to the EYFS
“The Early Years Foundation Stage sets the standards for Learning, Development and Care for children from birth to five.” EYFS
It is therefore essential that you work towards implementing the EYFS to the very best of your ability to ensure the very best practice in your setting.
We will guide you and support you through the EYFS Framework, from principles to practice so that you know how to use the EYFS

Effective Key Persons
“Each child in a group setting must be assigned a key person – in childminding settings the childminder is the key person.” EYFS
This course contains all you need to know about supporting children effectively whilst they are away from their parents; it is your essential guide to the roles and responsibilities of being a Key Person.

Partnership with Parents
“Parents are children’s first educators. When parents and practitioners work together in early years settings, the results have a positive impact on children’s development and learning.” EYFS
Parents and carers know their child and its world intimately and can help you to provide the best possible care and environment during the child’s time with you. Learn more about building relationships and improving communication in your setting.

Observing Effectively
“Practitioner’s observations of children help them assess the progress which children are making. This is an essential part of daily practice in any setting, regardless of the age of the baby or child.” EYFS
Making observations is fundamental to effective practice for all practitioners working with young children. It is a crucial practice for developing quality provision and professional understanding. By doing this course you will improve your observational skills, giving you a greater understanding of individual children, their needs and interests. You will also find out how to plan effectively for the children in your care, keeping informative records and assessments and sharing these with parents and carers.

Explore, Plain and Learn
“Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates, all areas of Learning and Development are equally important. Active learning occurs when children are keen to learn and interested in finding things out for themselves.” EYFS
Learning through Play is important; it comes naturally and spontaneously to most children, though some will need adult support. Learn how, as a supportive adult, you can plan interesting and simulating experiences and activities in appropriate ways to enable children to become active learners.

Creating and Enabling the Learning Environment
“A rich and varied environment supports children’s learning and development. It gives them the confidence to explore and learn in secure and safe, yet challenging, indoor and outdoor space.” EYFS
This course will look at best practice and how to create and enable your existing spaces to become better simulating places. We will help with design, storage, resources and equipment to make best use of the space you have.

Creativity and Connections
“When children have opportunities to play with ideas in different situations and with a variety of resources, they discover connections and come to new and better understanding and ways of doing things. Adult support in this process enhances their ability to think critically and ask questions.” EYFS
Being creative is important to all of us. Find out how to support children to become critical thinkers, be innovative and inquisitive, imaginative and flexible in their thinking. New ideas and solutions for introducing creativity and ensuring process not product.

Staying Safe and Healthy
Children’s health is an internal part of their emotional, mental, social environmental and spiritual well-being and is supported by attention to these aspects.” “Young children are vulnerable; they develop resilience when their physical and psychological well-being is protected by adults.” EYFS
It is sometimes difficult to separate keeping safe and healthy when thinking holistically about the whole child so for this reason we have included both these commitments in the one training course so that they are not seen in isolation rather as complimentary and integral to each other.
Safety is paramount at all times, this means providing choices and challenges within safe and supervised limits. This course will help you to understand your role in keeping children safe and healthy, supporting, protecting and enabling physical and emotional well-being.

Supporting Inclusive Practice
“Children should be treated fairly regardless of race, religion or abilities; they have an equal right to be listened to and to be valued in the setting. No one should be discriminated against.” EYFS
Inclusive practice refers to all children and all families. Find out more about working in partnership with other settings, other professionals and with individuals and groups in the community to support children’s development and progress towards the outcomes of Every Child Matters.
