Make a Claim

Here at Morton Michel we understand that suffering a claim may be upsetting for you and we are therefore committed to providing a first class service, making the experience as efficient and worry free as possible.

Property Damage Claims

Morton Michel holds a delegated authority from Sterling Insurance Company Ltd to handle most property damage claims under the value of £ 3,000.00. In the event of a large loss over £ 3,000.00, the claim will be handled by Sterling Insurance Company Ltd rather than by Morton Michel. Sterling may appoint a Loss Adjuster to visit you and discuss the claim and assess the damage. They will provide practical advice assistance.

What you should do in the event of a property damage claim

  • In the event of a claim, the matter should be reported to Morton Michel as soon as possible and no later that 30 days after the incident date.
  • If the claim relates to a theft or malicious damage to your property, it must be reported to the police and you must obtain a crime reference number or lost property reference number before the claim can be proceed.
  • When completing the form please ensure that you sign and date the declaration on the back of the claim form. Where possible, please supply us with the original documentation such as receipts, instruction books or photographs that confirm the make, model and cost of the item/s you are claiming for.

Service Standards

For claims dealt with Morton Michel, we have the following service standards to aid us in dealing with the claim as efficiently as possible:

  • We are committed to providing a quality service to all our clients
  • We will let you know as soon as possible, whether the claim is covered under the terms of your policy. If it is covered, we will advise you how the claim will be dealt with
On reporting the claim:
  • We will respond to new claims within five working days
  • We will respond to correspondence within ten working days
  • If the claim is repudiated, you will be provided with a full explanation
  • We will regularly provide you with updates on the claim
  • When the claim has been finalised, we will provide you with settlement details along with payments made.
  • Payments on claims dealt with by Morton Michel will be sent out within ten working days of agreement or receipt of the final documentation.
  • Payments from Sterling Insurance Company Ltd may take a little longer to process but we will forward payments to you as soon as we receive them.

Personal Injury Claims

Claims involving personal injury to employers, minded children or members of the public will be dealt with by Sterling Insurance Company Ltd. In the event of such a claim arising then please contact the Claims Manager on 0208 603 0933 to report the loss and we will then be able explain in more detail the processes involved in these types of claims.

Important Notice

Please note that certain policies arranged with Sterling Insurance Company Ltd are part of a profit sharing agreement between Morton Michel and Sterling Insurance Company Ltd whereby Morton Michel are partly remunerated according to the profitability of the insurance scheme. Claims settlements will obviously have some bearing on the profitability of the insurance scheme. Whilst we are completely confident that all claims handled by Morton Michel are done so entirely on the merits of the claim and are not influenced by any other factors, you may, should you wish, have your claims handled directly by Sterling Insurance Company Ltd rather than by Morton Michel.
