Captain Jack Sparrow entertains Great Ormond Street childrenJohnny Depp thrilled sick children at Great Ormond Street Hospital last month by dropping in unannounced dressed as his ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ character Captain Jack Sparrow. The Hollywood superstar had been in London to promote his latest film, ‘Public Enemies’, and took time out from his busy schedule to visit the hospital to cheer up young patients. He visited several wards, including the one his daughter Lily-Rose stayed in when she was treated for kidney failure in 2007. The actor has previously donated $1.5 million (£1 million) to the hospital to thank them for looking after his 10-year-old daughter during her health scare. Dying Californian girl granted final wish by film studioEmployees of a leading Hollywood film studio came to the rescue of young Californian girl with vascular cancer to grant her last wish – to see the animated film ‘Up’, reports The Orange County Register. From the minute Colby Curtin saw previews to the Disney-Pixar film, she was desperate to see it. The 10-year-old had been diagnosed with vascular cancer about three years ago and at the beginning of June it became apparent that she would die soon and was too ill to be moved to a cinema to see the film. A Pixar employee flew to the Curtin family’s home in Huntington Beach with a DVD of the film on 10 June for a private showing. The film, which opens in the UK in October and has received glowing reviews from American critics, begins with scenes showing the evolution of a relationship between a husband and wife. After losing his wife in old age, the man deals with his loss by attaching thousands of balloons to his house, flying into the sky, and going on an adventure with a little boy. Colby died about seven hours after seeing the film. Her mother, Lisa Curtin, told the newspaper, “When I watched it, I had really no idea about the content of the theme of the movie. I just know that word ‘Up’ and all of the balloons and I swear to you, for me it meant that (Colby) was going to go up. Up to heaven.”. |
