More than a dozen Foundation Phase teaching assistants in Wales have successfully completed their Welsh-language training. The Welsh Language training pilot was run at the University of Glamorgan Welsh for Adults Centre and funded by the Welsh Assembly Government. It gave the teaching assistants the chance to improve their Welsh-language skills and build up confidence in speaking Welsh with children in the Foundation Phase. Each participant had to complete a 10-week programme that was tailored to their individual needs as determined by course tutors. Education Minister Jane Hutt presented each teaching assistant with a certificate at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay last week and paid tribute to their “dedication and hard work” in this pioneering project. She said, “This is an excellent course which has proved a positive contribution to developing a bilingual workforce and benefiting our revolutionary Foundation Phase long into the future.” |
