Early Years Fundamentals Ltd. (EYF) is a national research, training and consultancy company led by the needs of the early years private, voluntary and independent sector.
They assess the needs of the sector termly through the extensive analysis of Ofsted inspection reports and prepare a response to trending Ofsted actions and recommendations through audit tools, practical guides, publications, training and consultancy.
Their intention is to provide credible information and low-cost services that help early years providers stay on the right side of a ‘good’ inspection outcome.
How does Early Years Fundamentals offer of support and training differ from others?
The services, documents and events on offer have been developed to address trending inspection issues and to provide leaders and managers with unique professional development opportunities. EYF have a dedicated team of associate consultants, trainers and researchers who all have a phenomenal range of knowledge, skills and expertise to offer. Each is a specialist in a particular field, but they also have an extensive early years background which enables them to deliver services and training in a meaningful way and with knowledge of the sector.
Their services and events are based on sound academic research and evidenced-based practice, which is not limited to the field of education. In the majority of the courses or services, you will find references to best practice and research used in the wider world of industry which enables EYF to offer unique, innovative and highly-effective approaches that challenge thinking, ensure consistency and build leadership capacity.

Early Years Fundamentals have a dedicated members’ site full of audit tools, articles and reports which are added to termly. Here, they support leaders and managers to understand, identify and manage issues that affect inspection outcomes.
Members can access a portal on their website where they find:
- Inspection data which helps leaders and managers to understand national trends in Ofsted actions and recommendations (and the cause of large numbers of inadequate and RI inspection outcomes).
- Audit tools, articles, and sector updates which respond to Ofsted inspection trends.
- One-off documents to help providers navigate changes such as the removal of the Ofsted SEF, changes to Working Together and an impact assessment of the draft inspection framework.
- Access to a limited number of online learning opportunities.
- Discounted face-to-face training.
- And an annual report in which EYF share the full range of Ofsted actions and recommendations that have appeared with frequency across the academic year.
