Nursery chain, Kiddi Caru, has raised over £8,000 for Home-Start UK in its first year of fundraising for the national family support charity.
The partnership kicked off last November with Kiddi Caru's 19 day nurseries supporting the charity's Snowflake Appeal and continued throughout the year with Family Fun Days and the Snowdonia Charity Challenge that alone raised £6,000.
Home-Start UK has been able to use these funds to train four new volunteers to support vulnerable families and fragile children across the UK. The volunteers work alongside parents in their own homes, to help them cope with the stresses and strains of life and make sure they have the skills, time and strength they need to nurture their children.
Caron Moseley, marketing manager at Kiddi Caru, said: 'We are absolutely delighted to have been able to support Home-Start UK this year. Our nurseries have been really supportive and understand that there is a huge amount of affinity between our organisations. None of us can know what the future holds and life can throw up many very difficult challenges so it is important that there is a support structure that can help families to cope during these times.'
The difference they can make to a family really is life changing as highlighted by Beth, a mum supported by Home-Start.
Beth was diagnosed with post-natal depression after her son, Alexander, was born. Although Beth's family were supportive, they lived far away and, as her husband worked, she often felt that she struggled to cope with her son on her own. Beth found out about Home-Start from her health visitor and gave them a call. She was matched with her volunteer, Dorothy.
Beth said: 'Home-Start helped me through one of the toughest times in my life and I can't imagine how it would have been without them. They gave me support, encouragement and reassurance and helped me to learn to laugh and enjoy myself and my family again. I hope that when my son is older I will be able to become a volunteer myself so that I can help others through their time of need.'
Kiddi Caru will continue to support Home-Start UK throughout the next year, kicking off its next fund-raising activities with its Winter Wonderland Grottos.
In addition to once again supporting the Snowflake appeal, nurseries will also be staging a number of activities including snowflake themed craft activities such as baking snowflake cakes and biscuits and having snowflake fancy dress parties to raise money for and awareness about the appeal.
'We are very excited to be supporting Home-Start UK throughout the next year and have some great ideas about what we can do to raise funds. Although personally I am not sure how we will beat the exhilarating experience of the Snowdon Charity Challenge,' added Ms Moseley.
